Wife, mother, lawyer and co-host on TVC’s “Your View”, Nyma Akashat Zibiri, is a strong-willed Muslim who, refused to be limited by her conservative roots. After picking interest in “Your View” a few years ago, she decided she wanted to be a part of the programme and eventually got her wish. Here, speaks of her Muslim heritage and combining it with work.
How long have you been an OAP?
For a year and two months.
What challenges have you faced since you started presenting?
Just a few; the one major being I had no training whatsoever in Journalism and Broadcasting. And, that of distance to the TV station.
As a presenter, has your religion ever affected or influenced your work?
My religion has a great influence on my lifestyle and definitely my work. Coming from a very Islamic background, I see and take the Islamic point of view all the time. I let the Qur’an and Sunnah guide my actions and decisions always
What did you study in school?
Law and I have been called to the Nigerian Bar.
What inspired you to go into broadcasting?
I feel there is little or no representation of Muslims in broadcasting so I resolved to fill the vacuum. I also hope to set the right pace for Muslim females in the industry.

Tell us how you became a host on “Your View”.
I have been an ardent viewer of the show from inception so, when they advertised for a Muslim co-host, I went for audition and was shortlisted among several other Muslim women. And, I was hired.
What issues do you think the incoming government should focus on?
I think they must tackle three important sectors: power, refineries and diversify our economy. Then, a systematic eradication of corruption must kick start these three.
How do you balance your family life with work?
Mmmmmh. It’s the grace of God and proper prioritisation. I don’t let them clash but when they do, I know which one takes priority.
Working with a lot of women can be tasking. Would you say your relationship with your co-hosts is solid?
Yes, it has become solid. We are closer now and I believe I can share anything with them. They have become family to me.
Did you ever practice Law?
Yes and I still do. I specialise in Property Law now. I hope to expand my practice beyond that soon.
Have you encountered a situation where you had to go off script for one reason or another and how did you manage the situation?
Yes and many times as a matter of fact. l have learnt to follow the lead of the host and producers.
